School is almost out and summer is just around the corner. While most kids in our area look forward to warm days of splashing in the lake, riding their bikes or playing in the park, some local children face a challenge. What to eat? During the school year, many children are able to get free lunches at school, and for those who qualify, The Lion’s Club generously provides free food to take home with them for the weekend. Spirit Lake Elementary school serves free lunches on weekdays for kids in the summer, but what happens on the weekends?
Cup of Grace Ministries wants to address this challenge by providing a Weekend Summer Free Lunch Program for Kids. We would like to provide free bag lunches to kids every Saturday in the Spirit Lake Big Park between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The lunch might include a sandwich or pre-packaged entrée (Crustables/Lunchables), fruit, chips, and water or juice.
While we are full of spirit, love and energy, we are low on volunteers to help us with this new program. We will need people to help us make sandwiches and/or pack the lunches, transport the lunches to the park on Saturdays, distribute the lunches and clean up. If you are interested in helping us, please call Amy Privitt at
817-228-5018 or email her at Amy@CupofGrace.Life. Thank you for helping us feed the kids so they have one less thing to worry about!
