How did you learn about Cup of Grace?
While I was looking for a job, someone told me that Amy Privitt was wanting to start making and serving free meals. So I went to the Coffee Shop where Amy was working to speak with her. It was the first time I met her but I liked her right away.
What drew you to volunteer?
My heart had longed to do something like this for many years, but I had no idea how to go about it. So as soon as I heard someone else is doing it and needs help, I was like “Yes! Here I am!”
How long have you volunteered with Cup of Grace, and what do you do?
I helped right from the beginning. I cook up a dish in my house and then most times I help serve at the meal.
What is your favorite part of volunteering with Cup of Grace? Do you have a favorite story to share?
My favorite part is to help serve the food or help elderly people that can’t go through the line themselves – to fill their plates and fill a carry-out for them as well. Story: I used to be very shy. But I was trying hard to come out of that “nutshell” for a long time. It was very hard for me. This work has helped me so much to step out and be more loving and friendly towards other people. And now lots of people want to be my friend. I advise you: Don’t just wait on the other person to say something. Maybe they are waiting on you!!
What do you like to do when you are NOT volunteering at Cup of Grace? Do you have any favorite hobbies, activities, etc.?
I like to cook and bake. Which most of that I do for other people too, now. Then sometimes I help others with their house cleaning. In my spare time I like to sew on quilts, etc.
Do you have a favorite scripture or quote that you would like to share with us?
John 15:7-17 – “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. This I command you, that you love one another.”
