Spirit Lake Community Crisis Relief Effort

Uncategorized
Due to the current public health situation, Cup of Grace is shifting our focus to provide immediate relief to our community. We are partnering with the City of Spirit Lake and the Spirit Lake Community Center to provide to-go meals twice a week. The Spirit Lake Community Center will be the focus of our town’s relief efforts. Beginning Monday, March 23rd, meals for both adults and kids will be provided through the front window of the Community Center from 3pm-6pm, on Mondays and Thursdays.  We also hope to deliver meals to those who cannot drive to the center.  Those receiving Meals on Wheels will not have a disruption to their program. Other necessities, such as diapers, cleaning supplies, Ensure, etc., may also be provided upon request during these hours, as items…

School Clothing Closet Program

Uncategorized
It’s your first day at school, and you’re wearing the only top you own: a sweatshirt you found at a thrift shop last year. You don’t have a coat and your feet have grown at least a half size since last year, so your toes are squeezed against the front of your tennis shoes. You have a couple pair of jeans but you’re quickly outgrowing those. And you don’t even want to think about the fact that you have no deodorant or shampoo at home and mom says there isn’t any money in the budget for them this month. You just hope no one at school notices. For a host of reasons, this scenario plays out every day at schools in our community. Some children don’t have appropriate clothing and…

Help Bessie Retire

Uncategorized
Bessie has worked hard all of her life and she’s dreaming of retirement, or at least cutting back to part-time work.  She’s familiar to almost all of the Cup of Grace volunteers who help at the Community Meal every week.  She’s been loyal to Amy and has withstood the harsh Idaho winters in her old age, transporting food to and from Amy’s house and the Spirit Lake Senior Center.  Still don’t know who Bessie is?  Bessie is the Cup of Grace van! Bessie was “born” in 2008 and served as the Privitt family vehicle in Texas for seven years before moving them up to Idaho in 2015.  Once in Spirit Lake, Bessie began her second career as the Cup of Grace van, hauling food, clothes, fundraiser supplies, and anything else…

Buddy Bags

Buddy Bags

Uncategorized
Cup of Grace and the Spirit Lake Police Department have teamed up to provide area children with "Buddy Bags".  These bags are filled with a variety of items like blankets, coloring books, snacks, stickers, a toy or stuffed animal and books that officers carry in their patrol cars to help comfort children who are going through tough or traumatic situations. Having something to hold and bond with during unusual or scary situations makes a world of difference putting the heart and mind of a child at ease and helps them remember that our officers are their friends. If you would like to help us with items to donate or make a $15.00 donation per bag, click on the link below. Donate Now Contact Us Thank you for helping your…

Building Dreams

Building Dreams

Uncategorized
When our founder, Amy Privitt, heard God telling her to “feed people”, she decided to begin a free Community Meal where volunteers would make the food and invite any and all to come share in the meal.  By divine direction, Cup of Grace began renting the Spirit Lake Senior Center for our free, weekly meals back in January, 2017.  It was the perfect locale for the Community Meal, right in the middle of Spirit Lake.  It had a large dining room, enough to hold our first year’s average weekly attendance of 65 people. Fast forward to today.  Our average weekly attendance for 2019 was 97 people.  Our highest attendance for one meal was 164.  We are quickly outgrowing our current venue and are beginning to search for a new location. …

Support We Can Bank On

Support We Can Bank On

Uncategorized
Cup of Grace’s vision from the beginning was to bring the community together. Neighbors helping neighbors, sharing a meal, lifting each other up when crisis hits, and providing food and clothes to people in need. We wanted to partner with local businesses and organizations to bring this vision to life. Just a few months after our founding in 2017, the staff at the Spirit Lake branch of First Interstate Bank (then Inland Northwest Bank) stepped up to support us in our fundraising efforts. They began with donation collection jars at each teller’s window. That autumn, when we held our first “Warm Clothes, Warm Hearts” coat and clothing drive to stock the Spirit Lake Elementary School Clothing Closet, they offered to be a collection site for coats, clothing, and footwear. Since…

Summer Saturday Free Lunch Program for Kids Starts Again on June 8th

Uncategorized
School is almost out and summer is just around the corner. While most kids in our area look forward to warm days of splashing in the lake, riding their bikes or playing in the park, some local children face a challenge. What to eat? During the school year, many children get free lunches at school, and for those who qualify, The Lion’s Club generously provides free food to take home with them for the weekend. During the summer, however, those options are off the table. Cup of Grace started a free Saturday lunch program for kids in 2018 right after the school year ended. We handed out over 530 lunches and over 200 “weekend bags” full of kid-friendly foods so they had something to eat over the rest of the…
